the Beauty in Construction
risky business
Building sites are noisy and dusty places.
They are also usually cold and wet during this time of the year, impossible to walk around without being stuck in the mud.
Statistically, they are also among the most dangerous work environments, where risk assessments and safety measures rule over any operation.
But if you get invited or asked to take pictures of the works in progress, bear in mind that they are fascinating places to visit.
a wonderful show
You will be mesmerised watching how skilled workers are relentlessly doing their jobs. Master masons laying brickworks to perfection. Carpenters and welders creating the bone structure of the construction. Electricians and plumbers bringing vital energy to the fabricated organism. Plasterers and tilers completing the final look of the refurbished or newly built property.
Everything flows under the careful supervision of foremen and site managers, like directors of a perfectly choreographed show.
Nothing is magic. It is all hardworking and careful attention to detail.
However, it is always incredible to see how a beautiful piece of architecture comes alive from that first pile of rubbles, a big hole in the ground or a decayed building.
the designer’s dream
From the designer’s point of view, it is incredibly gratifying to watch the initial idea, existing before on paper only, getting the shape and becoming a physical entity, where people will live, work or spend their leisure time.
Documenting the operation of all the professionals in a building site is not just a job for me. It is also a way to save memories to be preserved and pay tribute to ingenious human abilities.
Per aspera ad astra,

thank you note
Special thanks to all my clients, particularly to Seacon Ltd., Sinclair Johnston & Partners, all their workers, foremen and site managers who made me welcome and helped in accessing their building site with all my photographic equipment.
